Comparing Nursing Homes Using State Surveys
A Step-By-Step
Visual Tutorial
Step 1: Go to www.medicare.gov

Step 2: Click on “Nursing Home Compare”.

Step 3: At this point, you have the choice to search
for a nursing home by either:
State
County
City
Zip
Code
Name
of the Nursing Home
Select how you want
to search. For purposes of this tutorial, I have clicked
on “State”.

Step 4: Depending on which criteria you chose, specify
your search criteria.
Then Click “Next Step”.

Step 5: On this screen, feel free to Click on any of
the tabs for more information about:
- Nursing Home Compare Information
- Data Details
- Resources
Then
Click “Continue” to move to the next screen.
Step 6: This screen will pull
up all the nursing homes listed in your search criteria.
You can search up to 10 nursing homes by Clicking on
the Box next to each nursing home. Then click “Next Step” at
the bottom on the page.

Step 7: Again, there are tabs that you can select on
for more information about the Nursing Homes's:
- Basic Information
- What are Quality Measures?
- Inspection Results
- Staffing Results
- Resources
For
an overview of the Nursing Home, Click on “View
all information about this Nursing Home”.
Step 8: You can chose to either view the nursing home's:
- Quality Measures
- Inspection Results
- Nursing Home Staffing
For this tutorial, Click on “Inspection Results”.

Step 9: View all deficiencies.
Step 10: You can
also view the Nursing Home's Staffing Ratios by clicking
on “Nursing Home Staffing”.
